Vanilla Scones with Cinnamon Cream Cheese Glaze

I wasn’t kidding when I said I would post some indulgent recipes here and there. I think we all need a little treat every now and then (at least I know I do). I want my blog and recipes to directly align with the kind of food I eat on a regular basis. As I’ve said before, I eat pretty healthy 90% of the time but I am a huge sweets person so I will treat myself to a sweet baked good every now and then. Do you ever watch Parks and Rec? It’s kind of like the ‘treat yo self’ days that Donna and Tom have every now and then. I think we all deserve a ‘treat yo self’ day every now and then. And if you have no idea what show I’m referencing, I highly recommend you go watch it. Now.

I also wanted to use this post to talk a little bit about my experience with my first Beautycounter products. I ordered a trial-size skincare gift set. It’s called “Our Favorites for Your Favorite“. I think it’s meant to be a gift you buy for someone else but I think it’s perfect to get yourself if you just want to try out some products before buying the full size ones. I guess this also goes along with the Treat yo’ self theme…

This set includes a Nourishing Cream Exfoliator, Nourishing Day Cream, Hydrating Face Oil, Nourishing Rosewater Mist and a Peppermint Lip Conditioner. And I have to say, I was pretty impressed with the sizes of the products. I was expecting them to be pretty small amounts but these are generous for trial-sizes. I’ve also discovered that you really only need a very small amount of each so these should last me a good while. I was already pretty skeptical about spending a pretty penny on these products expecting them to only last me maybe a few weeks but I am finding they will go a lot longer than that.

Let me just say that I am super impressed with these products. As I just said, I was very skeptical and already had my preconceived notions in my head about the products and what I would think of them. I thought “this stuff is really overpriced and it’s probably not worth the money I spent.. but I’ll try it anyway”. Well I’m here to tell you that I’m already in love with every single product. Lately, my skin has appeared very red, splotchy and uneven. Some days my face would be incredibly dry while other days it was shiny and oily. Also, I just have a pretty red skin tone to begin with but figured it was just something I had to deal with. I’ve only used these products for a few days now and can already tell a big difference! The red, splotchiness has minimized tremendously and my face feels so soft and not at all dry or oily. It’s almost like this is how my skin was supposed to be all along! I had no idea!

You can’t beat the quality of this stuff too. If you’re going to spend a decent amount of money on something, you should be able to notice that it’s very good quality. The first night I used all five products, I was smiling as I headed to bed because I honestly felt like I had just had a facial from a spa! I know that sounds ridiculous.. but that’s honestly how I felt. Since these products are all-natural and made with plant-derived oils and such, the smell is just amazing and you just feel luxurious using them! I feel like I just pampered myself every time. Ok, I could go on and on.. and you’re probably tired of reading this if you really have no care in the world about this stuff. But if you do, and you are looking for a toxic-free, natural skincare line, I highly recommend Beautycounter. You’ve heard it straight from a skeptic herself that is now a firm believer! Shoot me an email or comment if you want to know more!

Now that I’ve elaborated more than I probably should have on Beautycounter (and no, this is not a promotional post. I just really like their products) I think it’s time I focus on these scones.

I don’t know what it is about scones but I have an obsession with them. I don’t really care too much about any other pastry but there’s just something about scones that I can’t stay away from. My obsession is so real that I bought a special scone dish (the one in the picture) and now that I have it I want to bake scones on the regular.. it doesn’t help my obsession.  I think scones are so amazing because they are kind of like biscuits but like 1000 times better. Sweet, buttery, glazed biscuits. Mmmm. Now I want a scone.

Did you ever try the Cinnamon Biscuits from Bojangles? Side note- they stopped serving them for a while and a BUNCH of people complained and asked them to bring them back, so they did a few months ago. It’s probably weird that I know that… but it’s just because I just googled Bojangles Cinnamon Biscuits and the article popped up. So incase you were one of those people begging Bojangles to bring them back, then you should be happy to hear this news. Anyway, these scones taste really similar to those biscuits, I think. But way better of course.

Scones
  1. 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  2. 1/2 teaspoon salt
  3. 1 tablespoon baking powder
  4. 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  5. 1 egg
  6. 1/2 cup milk
  7. 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  8. 3/4 cup cold, unsalted butter cut into small cubes
  9. 1 tablespoon raw turbinado sugar
Glaze
  1. 3 tablespoons cream cheese, softened
  2. 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  3. 2 tablespoons milk
  4. 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  5. 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
Scones
  1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees and line a baking dish or sheet with parchment paper or use non-stick spray.
  2. Combine the flour, salt, baking powder and granulated sugar in a large bowl. Add the cold cubed butter and mix slowly until course crumbs form, do not over-mix.
  3. Combine the egg, milk, and vanilla into a small bowl. Then add to the dry ingredients and mix until combined.
  4. Place dough in freezer for about 10 minutes.
  5. Lay out a piece of wax or parchment paper and sprinkle with flour. Transfer the dough from the bowl to the floured surface.
  6. Knead the dough a bit until you can form it into one large ball. Flatten the large ball of dough out until it is about 1 inch in thickness.
  7. Use a floured knife or pizza cutter to cut the circle of dough into 8 wedges.
  8. Place the wedges on the baking sheet and sprinkle with the raw sugar.
  9. Bake for about 15 minutes or until the scones start to slightly golden. Remove from the oven and transfer to a cooling rack.
Glaze
  1. In a small bowl, whisk together all of the ingredients.
  2. Drizzle over the cooled scones.
  3. Top each scone with a little cinnamon.
